Hi, I'm, Jerry Dowling and here is the story of how Jerry Hauls It All got it's start.

I started in the workforce in 1986 shortly after graduating from Goshen High School.  I worked at a high end local retail furniture design center as a delivery helper on the truck; I was then able to move up the ranks to the position of warehouse/delivery manager after just a couple years as a result of my hard work.  My position involved receiving, inventory control, customer service, managing several employees and distribution of new furniture to residential homes through out Orange County and beyond.   Unfortunately the business suffered financial difficulties and closed in 1996.  I was devastated as I had a family so I quickly took a job in a large residential treatment center known as Sullivan Diagnostic Treatment Center located in Harris, NY.  I held the position of purchasing agent for the entire center for almost a year.  The job included ordering, purchasing, receiving and distributions of supplies through the center.  During this time, I pursued other opportunities.  I took several civil service exams and I was then offered a government pension job as a New York State correction officer in May of 1997. 

Working in the prison system as a New York State Correction Officer was not very rewarding to me and I felt very stagnant.  However, I continued to learn as much as I could and to further my career, I took a promotional exam to best utilize my managerial skills which would allow me to get out of the immediate inmate population. 

Approximately 1999 I came up with an idea of cleaning out estates for free as a hobby with two local high school teenagers.  I always was fascinated with flea markets, thrift stores and garage sale items.  I attempted to purchase a thrift store outside of Middletown, NY.  Due to unforeseen events, this never took place as the building had many code violations.  I then thought it would be best to purchase a large cargo van and rent storage barns in which I would fill with the many treasures I was collecting from various clean outs.  It was then I began to run ads in local newspapers as “The Retriever Team” and realized the power of advertising.  I quickly developed a name for myself and a reputation as I removed usable items for free for clients and sold them through classifieds ads and flea markets to raise money to keep this hobby going.  Unfortunately there was a lot of time devoted to picking up these items across the region and I had to sell these items in order to pay my operating costs.  I decided there had to be a way to make this an actual business so upon careful consideration and many brain storm sessions, I was able to create a plan to make my hobby turn into a money making business.

It was in September 2003 that I began to turn my hobby into a money making business.  I created a full service junk removal company called Jerry -“Hauls It All”.  During this whole time I was still working midnights as a Correction Officer in the New York State prison system.  It was very difficult to work two full-time jobs and it was wearing on me and my family.  In the beginning of Jerry Hauls It All, I would do just about any kind of removal job just to get my name out there.  I then invested most of the money I earned right back into the business by heavy advertising in the area.  After only a few short years, the brand became very well known.  I honestly can say that through all my hard work I am known through out the community and surrounding areas as one of the first local full-service junk removal companies.  We are known as a company that cares, has good standards and puts the customer’s needs first.  In the beginning, I started with cleaning out attics, basements, garages and sheds, now we’ve grown to a full service removal company.  We have expanded to include complete demolition work of many structures and see it through from beginning to end and offer dumpster rentals as part of our services too.    

In June 2007 I made a decision to vest my 10 years with the state and froze my partial pension until I am 55. I decided I needed to be in the driver’s seat of my business and I wanted to move to the next level.  I also wanted to be able to reap the rewards of all my hard work and also give my personal life more priority.  I want more of a balance between personal and work.  It is now my goal to become the best in my business and the best person I can be.
